In 1947, Cook Cleland entered three F2-G’s in the Thompson Trophy Race. The third aircraft
                                          was almost stock, painted black and carried the race number 84.

                                        The original pilot choice had to bow out at the last minute and Naval Reserve pilot, Tony Janazzo
                                        was chosen to fly the race. About half way through the seventh lap #84 flew itself into the ground
                                        at a very high rate of speed killing the pilot. Suspected cause was carbon monoxide poisoning.
